PRESS RELEASE

The great American artist has been invited by the Italian Cultural Institution ART1307 based in Napoli, to spend one month in their Residence for artists to explore the city and to produce works inspired by the city. As an artist of “Light and Space” movement he will “capture” the Southern Italian light and transform it in artworks based on the reflection of the light .
During his stay in Napoli an exhibition will be organized at the Foundation Pio Monte della Misericordia showing among others, a work produced expressly inspired by Caravaggio work “Le Sette Opere di Misericordia” owned by the Foundation. The piece produced will be donated to the Foundation and will be part of the important collection owned by it.
More: Dill has been invited by University La Sapienza in Rome to hold a lecture to the students about his body of works, methods, materials and concept. (March 20th from 4 to 7 PM)
Starting March 26th a large body of works will be exhibited in the prestigious location of Villa di Donato (a 1700 Borbon Hunting lodge) through ART1307 Cultural Institution. The exhibition will include also some of the artworks produced during the residency as neon light sculptures and neon and sand installation like others presented in Venice, Basel, New York and other international venues. This installation will be inspired and dedicated to the city of Napoli.
Dill is an important representative figure of the Californian art movement called “Light and Space” which since its beginnings in the ‘60ies, has been exploring the reflections of light on the surfaces of different materials like resins, metals, plastics. At that time the movement represented a real break with the past bidimensional artworks based mostly on paintings on canvases. The introduction of new materials in the art world introduced at the same time not only a new way to make art, but a new relationship between the artist and the viewer.
Exhibition at Pio Monte della Misericordia (via Tribulali 253) : March 14th at 11 AM ; till May 31st
Solo show at Villa di Donato (Piazza S. Eframo Vecchio 12) : vernissage : March 26th at 6PM till May 10th
