Biography

At first sight, Rodriguez’s artwork has the typical characteristics of wreaths/floral vases, decorative floral pattern motifs, interior wall paper, and cakelike gestures, and bows. In a closer look Rodriguez proposes a critical look into pattern and decoration inside the home. Rodriguez recalls the imagery of her home as a child which was decorated with fake fruit vases, 99 cents interior decorations, and an array of house plants. In this body of work Rodriguez investigates the relationship she had to her memory of decorations that adorned her home and the conversations that arise with social class status and the play between real food versus fake food, 99 cent decorations versus China vases, and the conversation that arises about our understanding of beautifying the home. By combining this duality Rodriguez explores the relationship of the real versus fake in order to address pattern and decoration in the home and the social construct of objects of ritual in an interior setting.
